Northtour - Norway (1)

It was no more far and really I felt a tingling sensation shortly before reaching my first target. After a time I noticed that I had to do a way. It was not at all as near as I thought.

When I left Kirkenes I took the E105 beside the lake Nejtiärvi until I came to the frontier to Russia. In the video I reached it at minute 1:09 and turned left to the 886 to Oskar Ils chapel. At first the road led a bit away from the frontier. This street was the worst I drove in these days and had potholes and humps. So I needed some more time.

It was barren, the trees were still without leaves and I got lovely landscapes arising in the far.

Amazing sightes appeared behind every dome or concealed curve. The most interesting part of this way followed next. In minute 14:40 I reached the small river Jacobselv. The signs pointed out very clearly the near border and the restrictions you have to take notice of. Meanwhile there were ever more beautiful views and the landscape was fascinating.

The last kilometers I drove directly beside the border river which is partly as small that you might have been able to throw a stone to the other side. But you never should do that. Like some other actions this is strictly forbidden to not provoke the Russion site. On the other river side and beside the mountains there were border structures to see so that I had a feeling like at times of the 'Cold War'. The Norwayen people doesn't seem to bother of that. Some have their holiday houses just at the waterside.

Now the road was a gravel road. Bad with more potholes but okay to drive on. In the video at minute 4:40 finally it is in sight: Oskar Ils chapel.

A wonderful refurbished chapel, supposedly in the middle of nowhere and on a day which couldn't be better with spellbinding sky colours! The mileage stood at 51.010km. Until here it was more than 3.000km (1.860 miles).

What are people doing here at this lonesome and mostly with bad weather dominated region? Nevertheless people can live here because traces of human beings at an age of 10.000 years were found.

To get to this target I found somehow uplifting. But there was one thing more to do. I will tell you on the next page.
