Northtour - Finland (11)
The tip of the lady at the reception to take the road 971 was precious. Why didn't I find this road whilst my research! However I could shorten the length of my way to the Norwayen-Russian frontier and also see a barren but very beautiful landscape. This is one of the few divergences from my plan - and I suggest you to do so if you're here.
Am I now already in the wilderness? The camping site was far outdoors and here is Lappland. Oh, yes I think this is the wilderness.
I startet wondering earlier that the roads up here are so good. Because of the hard and long-termed frost periods I had expected lots of road damages. And especially as I realized that there are many lorries that met me. There were nearly no pot-holes; driving was very comfortable.
The countryscape was quite varied, the street meandered in many curves lightly up- and downwards and it is nice to reproduce this in a video. This is a real road for bikers like I wish to drive. So the following clip has become longer.
This day there was a long distance to drive. The land was rising by the direction frontier Finland-Norway and the vegetation was again less than before. Shortly before I reached the border I made this video. I had a check expected because this is an EU-external frontier; Norway is no member of the EU. But I saw a green border without special controls. What else besides the so called 'small boder traffic' could happen here?
Arrived in Norway the street led me further to Kirkenes. This town is known as a target of many cruises. I saw all the rivers, many water areas which change into fjords and more and higher mountains. And the traffic rose also. Kirkenes is a City of which you notice before you arrive there.
Now I was near my first target, Oskar Ils chapel. More of that you can find on the next page.
