Northtour - Finland (9)
Shortly after 5 a. m. I sat back on my motorbike. In this clip at 20 seconds you can see an elk from the street. The way than went on along the river.
I left Rovaniemi behind me and it got lonelier and lonelier when I crossed the polar circle. Suddenly it became uncomfortable cold. The temperatures fell down about 20 degrees on a way of may be 30km (19 miles) to 4°C (39F). That was a reason to stop. I put on the prepared long underwear, track pants, a pullover and in the motorbike clothes I put the winterset. A short time later I was forced to put the rain coat over too. It held back the wind and it was tight. Thank to my handle heater the handle overcoat and my winter gloves I was protected also at these special points. Sure I was prepared to this; to see that it would change so fast I did not expect.
Nearly all small gas stations have cash points so you can refuel at any time. And there is a shop too where you can buy everything you need. Foodstuff of course, partially clothes and household chores. Naturally I was able to eat and drink there.
I really recommand the coffee which was standing there in simple pots for self-service on heating plates. At first I thought what kind of broth this would be because it simmered the whole morning. But I wanted to drink a coffee. And what a surprise. It was better than many coffees I've got from highly engineered automats. I made this favorable experience not only at this 'supply point', the coffee was great! The same is to say for the offered food like fresh rolls, croissants and so on.
That was my breakfast. The time was about 7:30 a. m. and my tour went on to Sodankylä. I saw some wracks laying in the road ditch. Microsleep, elks, reindeer? It looked like evasive manoeuvres. Who knows but I 've seen some of them.
Another thing I noticed was that the trees are growing much more lower. In the last part of my second video I turned over about 150km (90 miles) in the direction to Inary. I have seen more lakes, creeks and puddles.
Juho told me about the Cafe Zippi I should visit implicitly because of the very good meals. Unfortunetaly Zippi was closed. The season seemed to start later.
Nearby there were water areas with thick ice plates swimming on. Without warm clothes you won't come far at these places.
Now wind came up and I felt the coldness at the unprotected parts. Lucky for me that the visor of my helmet didn't fog; by the way I haven't had a fogged visor while it was raining cats and dogs the first day in Germany. I have considered a long time to buy the fog-free visor to my helmet and decided not to do. I never needed it.
Now here comes the same place with a nice camera pan.
Near Törmänen the landscape changed drastically. The climate became rougher and more inhospitable. I've put some clips together as follows. At the end of this recording some reindeers were to be seen. I added these short clips mulitple times.
